Certification in Action: Rebekah Kuller

What challenges/problems have you overcome that you could attribute to knowledge gained from the CCIFP designation? Can you share a particular situation?

I could share so many, but one in particular is when I was working with the bank. They had a lot of questions on contractor-specific items, such as over- and underbillings on our financial statements and the implications of such. I could comfortably navigate them through these items to ensure understanding for everyone involved.

What was the most obvious advantage you felt? Can you share any metrics/KPIs about the advantage(s) you’ve felt?

It’s been almost a decade since I obtained my CCIFP, but I remember realizing at the time that there were well less than 1,000 individuals nationwide who had both the CCIFP designation and a CPA license. That gave me a great deal of confidence as I sought to progress in my career.

The knowledge I have as a CPA and from CFMA and the CCIFP has contributed positively to the contractors I’ve worked for, to the tune of millions of dollars.

Why is it important to have a CCIFP in your organization? What impact has it had for your company or team?

Having a CCIFP in the organization shows both internal and external stakeholders that there is solid relevant knowledge of construction accounting and other related areas by the person managing the money.

External stakeholders have assurance in my abilities, which has led to improvements in our bonding program and annual review/audit with our CPA firm.

Why would you recommend the CCIFP to another person/business?

Obtaining your CCIFP helps you build confidence in your abilities both internally and externally, as well as providing instant, invaluable connections with other construction financial professionals. It requires continuing education, providing a solid addition to professional development, and encourages lifelong learning.

If you have your CCIFP designation and would like to share your experiences, send an email to publications@cfma.org.
